Tetris Gene

GeneStack: DNA/RNA Tetris

Learn Molecular Biology, One Block at a Time

GeneStack reimagines the classic puzzle game Tetris as a dynamic educational tool. Assemble falling nucleotide blocks, build DNA/RNA sequences, understand genetic code, and explore the fascinating world of molecular biology through engaging, fun gameplay.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

Nucleotide Blocks

Manipulate falling tetromino shapes representing Adenine (Green), Thymine/Uracil (Red), Guanine (Yellow), and Cytosine (Blue).

Base Pairing Rules

DNA: A ↔ T | G ↔ C

RNA: A ↔ U | G ↔ C

Follow fundamental base pairing rules to form stable genetic sequences. Correct pairs lock in place.

Sequence Completion

Successfully build valid DNA or RNA strands. Completing horizontal lines clears them, earns points, and advances learning objectives.

Playing Field

Navigate the vertical “cell” environment where nucleotide blocks descend, requiring strategic placement and quick thinking.

Learning Journey: Level Categories

  • 🧬

    DNA Structure (Levels 1-10)

Master nucleotide pairing and build basic DNA strands.

Learn about the double helix, base pairs (A-T, G-C), and how DNA stores genetic information.
  • ➡️

    Transcription Zone (Levels 11-25)

Convert DNA to RNA, handling promoters and splicing.

Understand how RNA polymerase creates an RNA copy (using U instead of T) from a DNA template, including introns and exons.
  • 🔬

    Translation Laboratory (Levels 26-40)

Translate RNA codons into amino acids to build proteins.

Discover how ribosomes read mRNA codons (three bases) to assemble chains of amino acids, forming functional proteins.
  • ⚙️

    Gene Regulation (Levels 41-55)

Control gene expression with operators, repressors, and activators.

Learn how cells turn genes on or off using regulatory elements to control protein production based on cellular needs.
  • ✂️

    Genetic Engineering (Levels 56-70)

Utilize restriction enzymes and CRISPR-like editing techniques.

Explore tools used to cut, paste, and modify DNA sequences, opening doors to synthetic biology and gene therapy concepts.
